As a massive snowstorm enveloped Washington this weekend, D.C. residents were able to sled on Capitol Hill for the first time in a long time.
A provision in a $1.1 trillion spending bill passed in December instructed U.S. Capitol Police to permit sledding on Capitol Hill, which had been strictly banned since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The ban had been in place since 1876, according to Washingtonian, but was only strictly enforced after Sept. 11.
