If you’ve been on the internet in the past couple of weeks, there’s a good chance you’ve seen a viral video depicting a dog’s pure joy when her owner’s boyfriend showed up dressed like her favorite stuffed Gumby toy.
It’s wonderful, it’s adorable and it’s completely understandable that you might want to try this out with your own pet.
But if your pet is a cat, take note that it might not go quite as you hope.
In a video posted to YouTube Wednesday, Jeff Cerulli donned a large shark costume in tribute to his cat, Peeps’, favorite shark-shaped hideout. Needless to say, Peeps was not impressed. (Admittedly, the shark costume didn’t really look that much like the shark bed.)
Poor little Peeps looked somewhat terrified when the enormous, shark-clad man barged in. The feline fled the room and then observed the situation skeptically from the doorway.
Cerulli told The Dodo that Peeps was back to being cuddly and affectionate after he took off the costume, reminding him of why he likes cats so much ― they typically won’t give their love to just anyone.
“When they start loving on you, you feel special,” he said. “It’s like when you are in middle school and some girl starts talking to you.”

Nice effort, though, everyone. Maybe next time try a little catnip shark?
