Celine Dion's Brother Daniel Dead At 59 After Battle With Cancer

The news comes just days after Dion's husband died at 73.

Daniel Dion, brother to Celine Dion, has died at age 59 of cancer. The news comes just two days after Celine Dion lost her husband, René Angélil, to throat cancer at the age of 73.

A tribute for Daniel Dion will take place on Saturday, Jan. 23 at Salon Charles Rajotte in Repentigny. There will also be a religious funeral at at St-Simon-et-Jude, in Charlemagne Québec.

"Battling cancer for a few years, it's in the uttermost discretion and surrounded by his family that Daniel Dion, 59, died today, January 16," reads a statement about his death, printed in full by People. "He was the eighth child of Thérèse and Adhémar Dion, brother of Céline."

"His last days were in the wonderful care of the doctors and personnel at Maison Adhémar-Dion, a palliative care center in Terrebonne Québec. For those wishing to send flowers, a donation to that organization would be very much appreciated."

On January 14, Celine Dion's team shared news of her husband's death on her Facebook page.

"It is with deep sadness that we announce that René Angélil, aged 73, died this morning at her residence in Las Vegas after a long and courageous fight against cancer," the post read. "The family wishes to live the mourning in privacy. Other information you will be provided in the next few days."
