Everyone loves a good dog video. They're always hamming it up for the camera which makes for quick spreading across the internet. Derick Watts & The Sunday Blues' latest release is the apex of dog videos - the adorable drooling, farting star is a music icon in the making.

But as we watch adorable videos of puppies barking for the first time and running in their sleep, many people forget that there are sad and broken dogs all over the world that are in need of love and a home.

A bigger light is being shone on puppy mills and pet overpopulation recently, but it's also important to understand that when you buy a dog or puppy at the pet store, you are contributing to the problem. The welfare of the animals in mills that supply dogs to these chain stores is scary and heartbreaking. The poor conditions and improper medical care leads to distressed mother dogs who are kept for breeding purposes and then either killed or abandoned when they can no longer breed. An estimated 1.2 million dogs are euthanized in shelters every year.

This cycle can be broken if adopting becomes the only way to bring a new pet home. There are thousands of dogs and other animals waiting to find a forever home with a loving family. Check out your local animal shelter for details.
