WASHINGTON -- Hillary Clinton raised more than $68.5 million for her campaign and the Democratic Party in June, according to a news release from her campaign.

The total includes $40.5 million raised for the Clinton campaign and another $28 million split between the Democratic National Committee and dozens of state parties. These sums are by far the highest monthly fundraising totals for the campaign so far this election cycle, which is no doubt due to Clinton having become the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee in June. The total is almost identical to the amount Obama raised in June 2012. The campaign enters July with $44 million in cash on hand.

"Our first month of general election fundraising proved to be the best of the campaign," Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook said in a statement. "Thanks to the continued support of nearly 1.6 million people, we have been able to help Democrats build out an organizing infrastructure across the country that will mobilize millions of voters and help elect progressive candidates up and down the ballot."

Clinton’s fundraising haul comes a month after presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump raised a paltry sum of $3.1 million. The billionaire TV personality’s campaign entered June with just $1.3 million in the bank -- a shockingly small amount of money that is unprecedented in modern campaign history.

Trump has not yet reported how much money he has raised in June for his campaign and the Republican Party, but he has been on a cross-country tour hitting up top GOP donors for cash. Trump and his finance chairman, Steve Mnuchin, made assertions that he had raised around $22 million as of June 22 for a joint fundraising committee linked to his campaign, the Republican National Committee and a handful of state parties. While it would be a massive improvement over Trump’s nonexistent May fundraising, this fundraising pace would still significantly trail that of Clinton and the Democrats.
