Closure by Sylvia Stein

Hello everyone, I am back with another blog post today. For today, I will share on my first solo novella Closure, which was my first solo book as an Indie Author.

Closure. was the first short story I wrote in my first Creative Writing class at Southern New Hampshire University online back in September 2012, while working to obtain my Master's Degree in English and Creative Writing which I earned in August of 2015.

I worked on this story for about a year and a half since it originally began as a short story and then I was encouraged by an author friend to make it into a novella. Therefore, I began writing the draft of this story. Then I did some outlining to focus on the main plot of the story about one young woman's journey in trying to figure out if she should forgive the past with a father who made her life so painful in her childhood.

After it all began to take shape and the story began to come together. I could envision it. This novella was about a family in mourning and the drama which stems from the abuse and the substance of alcohol and also cancer which plagues the main characters of Sara and Garrison James.

Thankfully, after working on it this story for about a year and a half on July 31, 2014 I published it on amazon. It went from being a first person narrative short story into the 33,000-word novella and I even changed it to a third person narrative. I have to say the reviews have been so amazing and I hope you all will check it out on amazon.

Here is the synopsis of Closure and the amazon link to it. I am currently working on the prequel to it which is due out this summer and is coming out in July which I will share more about it another post.

Closure Synopsis:

Garrison James had it all. One terrific home life and a loving family. Together, he and his wife Lila built a successful ranch and construction company. His world changed the day he lost his wife to cancer. He turned to the bottle and became a monster. Sara, his daughter, tried everything to please him. After years of abuse, Sara’s aunt visits. She recognizes the abuse and removes Sara. The frail girl begins the delicate journey of finding herself, while struggling to leave her father and the monster behind. Despite the emotional and mental scars, she carried, Sara manages to start a new life. She is finally happy. A phone call changes everything. Will Sara continue her new life? Can she face the monster, or will she find closure?

On the next blog post I will discuss the book by Ron Rozelle and his book on Description and Setting: Techniques and Exercises for Crafting a Believable World of People, Places and Events.
