Colorado Avalanche Leaving Pepsi Center Unfilled

Despite potentially being on their best game since 1995, the Colorado Avalanche has had difficulty filling the Pepsi Center. Attendance has dipped and executives are struggling find out why.

The crowd for Wednesday night's game against Phoenix set a new record home low at 11,012. Colorado's average attendance -- 14,759 -- puts the team in 25th place in the NHL, ahead of only five teams including the New York Islanders and Tampa Bay.

Speaking to the Denver Post, Paul Andrews, Kroenke Sports executive vice president, said,

"My initial reaction is surprise, that after this unbelievable start, we've been unable to get our attendance up to where I think it should be. Normally, I'd think it's because of the economy and ticket prices being what they are. But in our case, because we have so many low-cost options now, it's a little bit confusing to me still."

Avalanche owner Stan Kroenke has made headlines recently for increasing his stake in iconic British soccer club Arsenal.
