Dakota Johnson Sticks Up For Mom, Bashes 'Brutal' Hollywood

Why are there so many roles in real life that we don't see in reel life?

Dakota Johnson -- daughter of 58-year-old actress Melanie Griffith and granddaughter of 85-year-old actress Tippi Hedren -- sees only black and white when it comes to ageism in Hollywood. The star of Fifty Shades of Grey, featured on the February cover of British Vogue, said the entertainment industry was "f___ing brutal" when it comes to its treatment of older women.

Johnson, 26, asked “Why isn’t my mother in movies? She’s an extraordinary actress! Why isn’t my grandmother in movies?" She said that "No matter how tough you are, sometimes there’s the feeling of not being wanted. It’s absurd and cut-throat."

Other actors, too, have lamented the lack of roles for older women and men. A research paper found that a "broader range of images exists for older women in the real world than does for those in the reel world."

But while we're waiting for the universe to catch up with us, it's nice to see some daughterly love and shared outrage!
