Dan Harris admits to feeling envious of his fellow media personalities at times.
"There's no question that there are moments with David [Muir] and lots of other people at ABC News where I watch them and say, 'Oh, they're so good, I'm really jealous of them,'" he told HuffPost Live's Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani in a Monday interview.
But as the ABC anchor writes in his new book, 10% Happier, these feelings can actually enhance one's work ethic.
"A certain amount of comparing yourself to other people can actually be quite constructive," he explained. "[It] makes me better because I see how good they are, and I want to be as good as they are. ... It ups my game."
Additionally, by not viewing the success of his friends to be mutually exclusive with his own, Harris is able to celebrate their good fortune.
"Don't make the mistake of thinking that just because something good has happened to somebody else, it comes at your expense," he instructed. "Just because David [Muir] or George [Stephanopoulos] or my friend Jake Tapper over at CNN gets promoted or something great doesn't mean that thing was actually going to me and they reached out and grabbed it. That's a lie you're telling yourself."
