Teens' Death-Defying Stunts On Golden Gate Bridge Climb Are Bonkers

They didn’t have safety equipment ― but they did have nerve.

Two Wisconsin teens climbed up the Golden Gate Gate Bridge and performed daredevil stunts, prompting officials on Tuesday to announce they would revamp security measures for the iconic span.

A clip of the thrillseekers’ adventure was posted to YouTube earlier this month but hadn’t gotten much attention until recently ― and that’s why authorities acted, KTVU reported.

In the meantime, Peter Teatime is reveling in his nighttime antics with pal Tommy Rector.

“Such a surreal experience,” Teatime told KGO in San Francisco. “One of the awesomest ones of my life.”

They dangled above by their fingers and did flips, turning the nearly 750-foot high structure into one over-the-top parkour experience:

Denis Mulligan, general manager of the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District, called the climbers’ behavior “reckless” and said they could have done “serious harm” to motorists below had they fallen. “The Golden Gate Bridge is not an amusement park ride,” he said, per Curbed.

Teatime and Rector escaped detection on the landmark because motion sensors and cameras were not targeting where they were, Mulligan said.

An investigation that includes Homeland Security is ongoing, the San Mateo Daily Journal reported Wednesday. Climbing the bridge is punishable by up to a year in jail, the Journal said.
