Dax Shepard Spills The Beans On How His Kid Learned To Drop The F-Bomb

It all started with "The Wheels on the Bus."

Dax Shepard’s plan to get his daughter to stop swearing didn’t quite go as he thought.

During his appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” that will air Tuesday, Shepard talked about the battle he’s currently having with his wife, Kristen Bell, over a La-Z-Boy recliner. He also shared how he unintentionally taught his daughter Lincoln, who is almost 4, how to drop the F-bomb.

The funny conversation with DeGeneres started with Shepard discussing the unordinary thing he does to keep Lincoln and his other daughter, 2-year-old Delta, from getting up too early.

“I go to great lengths to make sure they won’t wake up so I put aluminum foil on their windows on the outside,” he said, jokingly adding later, “It’s like they’re meth addicts.”

To really make sure the girls stay asleep, Shepard also puts a towel by the door to keep light from coming in. One night after singing “The Wheels On The Bus” to the girls, he bent down to grab the towel and slammed his nose into his daughters’ bookshelf. That’s where the F-bomb comes in.

“I let a couple ‘motherfuckers’ rip, because I’ve lost count of where I’m at,” he said.

Shepard soon learned that his daughter was paying close attention to him that night.

“Two days later Kristen is walking down the hallway, and Lincoln is in her room trying to get a sweatshirt off ― she’s like 3 ― and her arms are all bound up in it,” he told DeGeneres. “She’s getting frustrated, and she goes, ‘Oh, fuck!’”

Shepard suggested that he and Bell ignore what she said, thinking their daughter would say it more often if she knew she wasn’t supposed to say it. Lincoln had other plans, though.

“About five hours later we’re at a pool party ― I swear to god ― she’s in the pool, she goes, ‘This pool’s fucking warm.’”
