DC United started this game against the LA Galaxy on the back of a 287 minute home scoreless streak, with their last home goal being against NYC FC on the 8th of April. By the end of the game, they’d added 90 more scoreless minutes to that streak.
The first half started out in a back and forth manner... with José Guillermo Ortiz leading the line for United...
...and the Galaxy defense playing strongly.
When the Galaxy attacked, Bill Hamid was there for United to collect the ball.
United’s Lloyd Sam pressed down the right wing...
...but the Galaxy defense, again, stood strong.
The Galaxy’s Emmanuel Boateng pushed forward, to no avail.
When United attacked, Jelle Van Damme was there to block their attacks.
...although on at least one occasion Ortiz did manage to make it past him... to no avail.
Which was the same for the Galaxy attacks.
Former Chelsea and Arsenal player Ashley Cole did his best to prevent United from scoring...
...although his opposite numbers on the United team did the same.
So the half ended with United pressing...
...to no avail, and the half ended with both teams having only one shot on goal. The second half started with the Galaxy on the attack...
...but it wasn’t long before United took the upper hand...
...although Jared Jeffrey...
...was unable to get the ball past Jon Kempin in the Galaxy goal.
United continued to press...
...but they still couldn’t find a way to get the ball beyond Kempin.
In the 58th minute, a foul from Joao Pedro on the very edge of the penalty box gave United a chance that came...
...that came to nothing.
The Galaxy had several chances that Hamid was able to turn over the bar...
...but primarily it was United that attacked...
...with the Galaxy defense standing strong.
Luciano Acosta did manage to ring the ball off the crossbar, but was unable to score...
...and in the 83rd minute Acosta was substituted after injury ended his day...
...to be replaced by Julian Buescher.
...but while United continued to attack...
...nothing made it past Kempin, meaning that the home scoreless streak reached 377 minutes, although the defense were at least able to prevent the opposing team from scoring for the first time since the opening game of the season against Kansas City
