Since last year, Nicki Minaj has led us to believe not once, but twice, that she and Meek Mill were engaged.
But despite the rumors swirling 'round the mill, the "Pinkprint" rapper assured Ellen DeGeneres that she is not, in fact, engaged.
During her appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" Thursday, Minaj confirmed that the rings she's received from "this boy that likes me" (aka Meek Mill) are nothing more than rings. While host DeGeneres and Minaj were talking, the comedian couldn't help but bring up the star's newest rock, pointing out that she wasn't wearing it.
"I was looking for the engagement ring … " DeGeneres said, as Minaj was fixing a bracelet. But the "Finding Dory" star was quickly shut down.
"First of all, that’s not an engagement ring," Minaj said. "Right. I have two rings from this boy that likes me. And he gave me ... He said that ... Oh, my God. Stop!"
She then added some clarification, saying, "He said that that’s my second ring and that if I get a third ring, that that would be the engagement ring." (The rapper expressed similar sentiments in a recent interview with Nylon.)
DeGeneres then took it upon herself to ask, "So, do you want the third ring? Are you ready to get engaged?" to which Minaj replied, "You know, I don't know."
"We’re still figuring each other out," she said. "And, in fact, I don’t even want to say that I’m in a relationship anymore because I think when people hear that they go to, like, the mean place and try to, like -- not you, though," she said, referring to DeGeneres. "I love you to death."
Minaj added that she used to be a much more private person, telling people she was single when she was in a 12-year relationship.
"Now," she said, "I feel like just going back to that and saying, you know what? I’m single."
You can rest assured knowing that Minaj didn't actually mean she's single right now. Some outlets seemingly took her words out of context, implying that she basically said she was back on the market.
She and Meek Mill are definitely still on. They're just not engaged. (Yet.) She made sure to clarify with an Instagram post following the interview with DeGeneres.
"It would be very remiss of you to not watch what I said about Valentines Day prior to writing or believing a headline about my comment," she wrote in the caption. "I'm not single."
