Some Bernie Supporters Are Really Pained About The Idea Of Voting For Clinton

A few even said that a Hillary Clinton presidency would be "more dangerous" than four years of The Donald.

Hillary Clinton is scheduled to accept the Democratic Party’s nomination on Thursday, but there are some Bernie Sanders supporters who haven’t decided to rally behind her just yet ― even if she’ll be up against Donald Trump in the general election.

Following a leak of emails, which added legitimacy to suspicions that Democratic National Committee leaders weren’t completely neutral during the heated Democratic primary race, “Bernie or Bust” voters showed up in full force for the party convention in Philadelphia this week. Anti-Clinton protests made it clear that some deep fault lines still exist among Democratic voters. Sanders supporters even booed the Vermont senator when he called for party unity during his speech on Monday.

A recent Pew poll showed that 90 percent of “consistent” Sanders supporters plan to back Clinton over Trump, but other estimates aren’t as clear-cut. The Huffington Post spent some time talking to pro-Sanders activists in Philadelphia to see what some of Bernie’s more vehement supporters have to say. When asked whether a Clinton or Trump presidency would be more dangerous for the United States, people gave a range of answers.

“I have no doubt that a Trump presidency is more dangerous,” Sanders supporter Dorothea Graham said.

One protester, Janet Flor, said she planned to vote for presumptive Green Party nominee Jill Stein, who has spoken about the “rigged system” that she says allowed Clinton to win out over Sanders.

Other activists agreed that a Trump presidency wouldn’t be best for the nation, but still refused to throw their weight behind Clinton.

“If Hillary Clinton is president, we’ve lost our democracy,” Steve Stokes, another Sanders supporter, said. “And yes, I do suspect that that would be more dangerous.”
