Even Donald Trump's Alma Mater School Newspaper Endorsed Hillary Clinton

Another day, another newspaper endorsing Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump for president. But this time, the paper doing so is The Daily Pennsylvanian, the student-run publication of Trump’s alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania.

The GOP nominee has repeatedly bragged about attending UPenn, saying during his campaign that his graduating from the university’s Wharton School makes him “like, a really smart person.”

The feeling’s clearly not mutual. In an editorial published Tuesday night, The Daily Pennsylvanian’s opinion board said it did not support Trump for president. Distancing itself from the GOP candidate was “both necessary and natural,” it added.

Instead, the paper released a statement with the student newspaper of Clinton’s alma mater, and joined the Wellesley News editorial board in endorsing the Democratic candidate for president. The boards wrote:

Though Clinton embodies her alma mater’s institutional values, Trump does not. It is clear that Trump has failed to dignify the morals of his institution. Penn’s motto, “Leges sine moribus vanae,” translates as “Laws without morals [are] useless.” In evaluating Donald Trump through this context, the Opinion Board cannot say that his actions attest to his morals: He does not embody the spirit of the school.

Penn students and alumni have voiced their opposition to Trump before. Groups on campus have staged protests, while nearly 1,400 students and alumni from the Wharton school published an open letter in June to let the brash businessman know they do not support him.
