It’s Much Easier Being President Trump On Jobs Day

When Obama delivered job numbers, he was “aggressively sustaining mediocrity.” When Trump delivers the exact same numbers, he’s a hero.

Despite 76 months of consecutive job growth to end his tenure, President Barack Obama could always turn to Fox News to learn how his administration was destroying the economy.

But now with Donald Trump in the White House, Fox News is singing a different tune ― even when the Labor Department’s monthly jobs report is the same, or worse, than under Obama.

211,000 jobs added in November of 2015?

“I think what we’re doing is aggressively sustaining mediocrity,” Paul Conway, a former Labor Department official under President George W. Bush, said at the time.

211,000 jobs added in April of 2017?

“It’s a great jobs report,” according to Conway.

292,000 jobs added in December of 2015?

“Modest by historical standards; the new normal in the Obama years,” Fox Business Network’s Stuart Varney said then.

235,000 jobs added in February of 2017?

“This is the start of the Trump expansion,” Varney said.

Trump has also changed his tune after regularly decrying the unemployment rate as a “phony number.”

When asked in March about the jobs numbers under Trump, White House press secretary Sean Spicer didn’t miss a beat.

“I talked to the president prior to this [briefing], and he said to quote him very clearly: ‘[The jobs report] may have been phony in the past, but it’s very real now.”
