"Don't worry about the world coming to an end today.
It is already tomorrow in Australia."
-- Charles M. Schulz

Does your mind ever scamper out in front of you into the shadows of the unknown where your imagination conjures up a plethora of cinematic "what ifs"? On occasion, mine does. It is then that I remember what my mother used to say to me as a kid: "Don't borrow trouble from tomorrow son...try to live your life in day-tight compartments because things have a way of working out for the highest and best."

Why pay interest on a debt you may never owe? Invest your energy where you'll receive the highest dividends. If you have a tendency to be a "worry wart", rather than borrowing trouble from tomorrow, I invite you to borrow my Mom's wisdom. See today as a tightly sealed compartment and don't allow tomorrow to leak in. The practice is to remember that when we drag our worries out of the shadows of tomorrow (where we have no control) and expose them to the light of the present moment we take back much of the power we have "invested" in them and--in the process -- they tend to be far less scary.

As a mindfulness practice breathe deeply and, to the best of your ability, "be here" now--primarily because now is really all you will ever have. There is awesome power to be found in divine surrender by embodying the words of Reinhold Niebuhr's Serenity Prayer:

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Indeed...don't borrow trouble on a debt you may not owe.
