For the fortunate, hunger is simply solved by opening the fridge or the pantry and grabbing whatever is available. Actually, hunger is the wrong word to describe this desire to eat. Hunger is what 795 million people around the world feel when they go to bed night after night without eating a single morsel. In some places, food is so scarce that children spend their short lives without really knowing it. Right now, in countries like Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan, and Yemen, 20 million people are facing famine. Organizations like Action Against Hunger, non-profit and operating for 40 years in 50 countries, is committed to saving people, mostly children, from severe dehydration, malnutrition, and hopeless hunger. This problem is more that one organization can handle. They need all our help.

Kneipp is mostly a vegan and natural beauty brand dedicated to outer and inner beauty for 125 years. They answered the desperate call. This unique brand has contributed to this dire situation by running #KneippGrows since March 16th 2017. Every time Kneipp Soft in Seconds Hand Cream is purchased, a percentage of proceeds go directly to Action Against Hunger (AAH). The organization has sent seeds and tool kits containing (a hoe, water can, and two tins of vegetable seeds to famine stricken communities). As a global humanitarian organization, Action Against Hunger is not only dedicated to ending the battle against hunger, but to provide clean water and healthcare.

In our world of excess, it’s hard to relate to the nightmare entire communities endure every second of every day. Food, something so rare in arid lands, becomes a mirage, unobtainable in the parched fields and thirsty territories reigned by drought and dust. A survey conducted by the USDA’s Economic Research Service in 2015, estimated that consumers and retailers wasted 31 percent of their food supply in 2010. We’re referring to approximately 133 billion pounds of trash food, which translated into a $161 billion dollars worth of perfectly good edible “garbage”. Sadly, the problem hasn’t gotten better, It’s worse!

In a threatened world rife with war, climate change, indifference and greed, we must step up before this avalanche of misery engulfs us all. The children's problem is our problem because they are the future. Food, like our water and air is not a gift for the few, the powerful, and the fortunate, it’s a human right for all to be shared and respected. Our world is in a state of physical, spiritual and moral imbalance, that in time will surely threaten everyone, everywhere. There is no better time like now to focus on priorities that benefit all people, to re balance our fragile world. Kneipp has set the bar high and other brands should and will follow. It’s necessary to transcend our “self-sightedness”. This Earth Day, we have an opportunity to think about our delicate planet and its most vulnerable inhabitants.
