Elan Carr Loses Race For Henry Waxman's Seat

Republican Elan Carr has lost the race for outgoing Rep. Henry Waxman's (D-Calif.) seat.

Carr, a gang prosecutor, faced state Sen. Ted Lieu (D) after both candidates emerged from a field of 16 candidates in June's open primary. Waxman, a longtime lawmaker who played a key role in bills like the Affordable Care Act, announced in January he would retire after 40 years in Congress.

Carr picked up endorsements from a number of high profile Republicans, including Mitt Romney, Rep. Darrell Issa and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy.
