You will find many articles, forums, and blogs on Fibromyalgia and Hysterectomy. There is new research linking these two together in that those that had a hysterectomy years later were diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.

There was a study published back in 2015 where researchers reviewed over 200 charts of women that had Fibromyalgia and about 150 of those that did not. They looked for a link between the illness and a gynecologic surgery, and the overlapping conditions.

They found that those that had had a gynecologic surgery were later diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Now those that had a hysterectomy were not officially diagnosed for 3-5 years after having the procedure.

Is there a link? In my case, there could be a possibility, but I am not sure. I did have a hysterectomy about ten years before I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I will say that I had all the symptoms of Fibro before I was diagnosed.

Did my hysterectomy trigger my Fibro? I am not sure if it did or not. That is something that I probably will never know how anyone gets Fibro is still a mystery.

Do I regret having a hysterectomy? No, as I had endometriosis and the pain was intolerable. Would I have changed my mind if I knew that I would be living with a chronic illness? No, I would not as the pain I was experiencing was not going to go away without the surgery.

Research is still being conducted on if a hysterectomy contributes to Fibro. Maybe in a few years we will know but for now, it is still not 100% if it does or not.

In my case, I did have one, and now I do have Fibro. As I said, I do not regret my decisions as with each health issue that comes up you have to do what is best for you as you are the one that knows your body.

I know there will be more changes, and I will take each one on a positive note because once I give into the negative and creep over to the red platform I have let my illness win and control my life. Staying positive lets me win each time.

Always remember to stop, take a breath and be positive!
