You will find many articles, forums, and blogs on Fibromyalgia and Omega-3 Fatty Acids. Fibromyalgia affects different organs so being heart healthy is really important.

To understand how Omega-3s have an impact on Fibro it would be good to understand what they do.

Omega-3 fatty acids are a common nutritional supplement. They are taken in the form of fish oil or flaxseed oil. They are a polyunsaturated fat, which is one of the good fats as opposed to the bad fat which is saturated.

It is believed that Omega-3s play an important role in:

  • Brain development and function.
  • Reducing inflammation
  • Reducing back pain.
  • Prevent heart disease
  • Lowering blood pressure
  • Lowering risk of cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease.

Some health professionals recommend that individuals who don’t eat a rich diet in Omega-3s take 500 mg a day in supplements. You can find Omega-3 in the following foods:

  • Salmon
  • Tuna
  • Seaweed
  • Algae
  • Walnuts
  • Soybeans
  • Flaxseeds

I take a fish oil supplement every day. With fish oil helping prevent heart disease that helps with my triglyceride issue to do my Fibro. It also helps with the inflammation, so I don’t have to take any pain medications to cope with the pain from my Fibro.

Taking a fish oil supplement each morning is not that bad. There are several kinds out there, and I prefer to take the burpless, odorless ones as that way I don’t have a hard time taking them.

I do eat salmon and walnuts, but not enough, so I have to take a supplement, so I get the proper dose each day.

There are some studies out there that show Omega-3 can improve the symptoms of Fibromyalgia. Some of the research shows that the Omega-3 helps to alleviate oxidative stress, which plays a role in those with Fibro and having a flare up.

I would rather take a supplement than to have to take another RX, so I am totally fine to do this. The capsule is large, so that is hard, but they do make mini ones, so you just have to find what works for you if you are going to take a supplement.

I know there will be more changes, and I will take each one on a positive note because once I give into the negative and creep over to the red platform I have let my illness win and control my life. Staying positive lets me win each time.

Always remember to stop, take a breath and be positive!
