Florida Congressman Carlos Curbelo (R), 26th District: "In Boston, dirty bombs were used."

Florida Republican Congressman Carlos Curbelo just falsely claimed that the Boston Marathon bombers used a "dirty bomb" and that gun control won't solve anything in a video going viral, that recently surfaced on the internet, which you can see below.

Curbelo was just elected for the first time in 2014 and his district has been re-shaped since then to add Democratic voters, after a Florida lawsuit fighting gerrymandering led to a new electoral map.

It appears that Curbelo is now desperate to scare his constituents about terrorism with his contradictory statement, then amping things up with some deliberate fibbing, when the Republican congressman said:

"In Boston, dirty bombs were used."

Carlos Curbelo was dead wrong about the type and seriousness of the bomb used in the Boston Marathon attack.

It was actually a pressure cooker bomb.

Not a radioactive "dirty" bomb.

But the one-term Congressman wasn't done with his doublespeak filled sound-bytes.

"'Others' offer the idea of tighter gun laws as the answer to these terror attacks on the mainland," began Cubelo, speaking slowly and deliberately to the camera, "A conversation about keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals is warranted."

On the one hand, gun control laws won't help, but on the other, Congressman Carlos Curbelo says that we need a conversation.

Why bother if we're just going to do nothing?

That's when Cubelo opened his mouth and let the trumpery spill out, his claim that the Boston bombs were dirty aka radioactive.

How can scaring the bejeezus out of voters with falsities help a candidate?

“Curbelo’s dismissive rhetoric is nothing short of irresponsible,” said former Rep. Joe Garcia, who is an active candidate for Florida’s 26th Congressional District against Curbelo this year, competing in a Democratic primary against former Florida Lt. Governor candidate Annette Taddeo (full disclosure: I donated $100 at Taddeo's campaign kickoff party last year). Garcia continued:

"By opposing every responsible gun law presented to him in Congress, Rep. Curbelo has refused to listen to the public who overwhelmingly support responsible gun control measures that would help protect our families."

Carlos Curbelo just tore a page out of fellow Republican Donald Trump's know-nothing, sew fear at all opportunities playbook.
