Free Shakespeare in the Park Coming Back to Coconut Grove

Both have been great locations in the past. I particularly love the barn-like, "Let's put on a show!" atmosphere at Shell Lumber, but of course, the dark back lawn at The Barnacle was made for productions like this. Stages are set up at both locations and these professional performances are colorful and enjoyable. Both are under the stars presentations as Shell Lumber is open air, just as The Barnacle is.

The Tempest, Shakespeare's final solo effort, is often considered to be his personal farewell to the stage. It is a tale of love, redemption and forgiveness...with but also with crazy servants, drunken sailors and devious monsters mucking up with works. Colleen Stovall, Producing Artistic Director, notes, "When you ask people their all time favorite Shakespeare play, the answer is invariably The Tempest. The characters are unforgettable; romantic, powerful, and often side splittingly and profanely hilarious. The language is accessible to modern audiences, and with our approach to the work, the show is a good romp
for the entire family. This year's production will feature a full cast, rich costumes, live music, dance, plenty of swordplay, magic and, or course... magical puppets."

A primary goal of the Shakespeare Miami is to expose more people to Shakespeare and the theatre by making it accessible, exhilarating, relevant and immediate for today's audience. Over the past nine years, thousands of South Floridians have experienced Shakespeare Miami's signature brand of fast‐paced dialogue, hilarious interpretations and fresh, physical staging of the much beloved plays from over 400 years ago.
