Girl Scouts Prove They’re Smart Cookies, Use Leo DiCaprio To Sell Thin Mints

Tagalong with these girls, they’re going places.

There’s nothing cookie-cutter about this sales tactic.

Girl Scouts in Suffolk County, New York, took a picture of Leonardo DiCaprio eating cookies at the Oscars and made it into a clever poster to attract more potential customers to their cookie booth.

The poster features a photo of the Oscar-winning actor seated at the Academy Awards opening a box of Trefoils he bought from host Chris Rock. The girls decided to use his star power to sell some Samoas:

"This is Leo. Leo wants an Oscar. Leo buys Girl Scout Cookies at the Awards. Leo wins an Oscar," reads the poster with a photo of DiCaprio with his tongue sticking out in sweet anticipation of cookie goodness. "Leo is smart. Be like Leo. Buy Girl Scout cookies."

Since the poster was posted to Girl Scouts of America’s Facebook page on March 7, it has gone viral, receiving over 50,000 likes and over 16,000 shares.

ABC News reports that the movie star-inspired move actually helped the girls sell more cookies.

"It made people stop at the table to read the sign, and then we were able to ask them to buy cookies. It's hard to say no to a Girl Scout," the troop told ABC.

The cute sales tactic may seem cutthroat, but the money made from cookie sales help Girl Scouts go on educational trips and earn badges, a Girl Scouts of the USA rep told The Huffington Post. More importantly, the funds also help the little ladies complete community service projects like organizing food drives, volunteering at a food pantry and performing at a local convalescent home.

There’s nothing crummy about that.
