Here's Footage Of Google's Driverless Car Hitting A Bus

It could've been worse.

Google's driverless car earned the dubious distinction last month of being the first autonomous vehicle to hit another car -- and now we have footage of the incident.

A new video published Wednesday by the Associated Press shows the inside of the bus as the driverless car bumped it while on the road in Mountain View, California.

It's not exactly exciting stuff -- the driverless Lexus SUV was going very slowly, according to reports -- but it's still pretty surreal footage. At the end of the video, you'll see the damage that the driverless car suffered as a result of the collision.

The accident occurred as the driverless car attempted to merge into a center lane. According to Google, the car expected that the bus would yield. The company updated the vehicle's software after the incident.

To be clear, Google's self-driving car has been involved in accidents before. But unlike this case, those accidents were caused by human drivers. This is the first time the driverless vehicle itself caused an accident.

While no one was injured in this incident, experts have worried over what will happen when a driverless car is involved in its first fatal accident -- perhaps an inevitability as we move closer to a future in which self-driving vehicles are everywhere.
