Halle Berry, like many mothers of color, is worried about her son.
The actress sent out thought-provoking posts on social media in the wake of the fatal shootings of police officers in Dallas and the killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile.
On Friday morning, Berry asked on Twitter what the future of her “brown son” will look like and encouraged those reading to take action. The tweet is accompanied by a chilling image of a boy facing a cloud of blue smoke.
Berry’s sentiment isn’t new, but it’s even more significant with the rising number of black men being shot and killed by police.
Berry went into more detail in an Instagram post on Thursday evening, where she vowed to take action beyond posting on social media.
“Our boys need us so rather than launching into deep sentiment here on this platform, I promise to find ways to get involved and help,” she said.
Berry encouraged her followers to get involved as well by “reaching out to your local politicians, legislators and government officials.”
Beyoncé also released a statement on Thursday in response to the shootings of Sterling and Castile. She encouraged fans to “take a stand and demand” that “police stop killing us”, and provided links to get in touch with local politicians.
