Hayden Panettiere Reveals She Will Continue Seeking Treatment For Postpartum Depression

"I have chosen to take time to reflect holistically on my health and life."

Hayden Panettiere has been open and honest about seeking treatment for postpartum depression.

The "Nashville" actress announced Thursday via Twitter that she is taking time off once again to manage her PPD, which she says has "impacted every aspect of my life."

According to the Mayo Clinic, symptoms of postpartum depression can include mood swings, fatigue, thoughts of self-harm and difficulty bonding with your baby. Panettiere previously sought voluntary treatment in 2015, after welcoming her daughter, Kaya, the previous year.

The actress previously spoke about dealing with PPD during an interview on "Live with Kelly and Michael."

"There’s a lot of misunderstanding and I feel like there’s a lot of people out there who think that it’s not real, that it’s not true, that it’s something that’s made up in their mind," Panettiere said. "And, ‘Oh, it's hormones’ and they kind of brush it off and it’s not true. It’s something that’s completely uncontrollable and it’s really painful and it’s really scary and women need a lot of support."

After speaking candidly about her treatment for postpartum depression, the 26-year-old actress said she was surprised by the amount of support she received.

"I didn’t even look at social media," Panettiere told Entertainment Tonight at the Critics Choice Awards earlier this year. "Then, when I looked, people were like, ‘Oh, my gosh, good for you,’ and I am so proud to be a spokesperson and a woman that people can look to and to know that they’re not alone and they’re not weak if they go and they seek help."
