Dear Mr. President,
March 30, 2017
Re: Trump Power
Energy is the backbone of the American economy and as your Executive Order on March 28, 2017 made clear, you plan to make energy a priority for your administration. We applaud your efforts to put our country’s coal miners back to work and your focus on creating good-paying American jobs.
But there’s one more opportunity you’re missing.
A businessman as shrewd as you must surely have noticed the huge opportunity for US economic growth and job creation presented by America’s fastest-growing power sector: wind and solar.
We know you prefer concisely written documents so we’ve kept this short.
It cannot have escaped your attention that:
- In 2015, solar employment grew 12 times faster than the overall U.S. workforce., with American jobs in solar overtaking those in oil and natural gas.
- Today, the American solar workforce is nearly three times the size of the American coal mining workforce.
- States like Texas and Florida are in the top 10 states for solar jobs, and the rust belt states like Pennsylvania and Wisconsin that swung the election for you already see some of the employment action. They could see much more.
- Not to mention the adjacent industries like electric vehicles. Tesla has made Elon Musk a multi-billionaire and he’s currently building the biggest factory in the world in Nevada, which will create thousands of American manufacturing jobs and reinvigorate the U.S. auto industry.
Simply put, today our homegrown solar and wind sectors support thousands of American families with good-paying, healthy jobs. Let’s put Americans back to work in these jobs, not jobs that make them sick and put them in danger.
Some people believe that sustainability is the enemy of profitability. They are wrong. Last year, 17 companies made more than $150 billion dollars from environmentally and socially responsible business. Their stock has outperformed that of their conventional counterparts by 11.7% every year over the past 5 years. And more companies are joining them all the time. You can read more in my book Green Giants. I’m sending it to you.
This new American power sector is another such multi-billion-dollar opportunity.
The energy sector needs a makeover. And you, Mr. Trump, are the man for the job. You have the chance to establish America as the world’s clean energy super power.
Enter Trump Power.
Here’s your three-step plan:
- Prioritize energy made right here at home, by American families, on the rooftops and in the backyards of American homes. It’s the ultimate in energy independence. It’s all-American Power. Or “Trump Power”, if you like.
- Set an ambitious job creation plan in motion, connecting communities in the rust belt to new, good paying Trump Power wind and solar jobs. Energy efficiency can help too, saving American families money while putting workers in communities across the nation to work.
- Set a moonshot vision to galvanize the nation: America will “Trump” China to become number one in wind and solar by 2020.
With Trump Power, you, Mr. Trump, will make America’s energy sector great again. You can contact us at hey@wearefuterra.com to discuss more.
Forget “drill baby drill”. It’s time for “shine baby shine”. It’s time for Trump Power. The future’s bright.
Yours, Futerra
