Jennifer Aniston: 'Women Do A Lot Of Incredible Things Other Than Procreate'

The actress spoke to Ellen about her viral Huffington Post op-ed.

Jennifer Aniston wants women to support women.

The 47-year-old actress appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” Wednesday morning to discuss her upcoming movie “Office Christmas Party” and what she’s up to this holiday season. During the show, Aniston took a moment to comment on her July 2016 op-ed, “For The Record,” written on The Huffington Post.

In her essay, Aniston highlighted the sexism and objectification she experiences on a daily basis from tabloids and gossip sites. “The objectification and scrutiny we put women through is absurd and disturbing,” Aniston wrote. “The way I am portrayed by the media is simply a reflection of how we see and portray women in general, measured against some warped standard of beauty.”

Aniston explained that she was inspired to write the piece after she returned from a vacation with her husband. She arrived at the airport to find a mob of paparazzi swarming her, questioning whether she was pregnant based on a tabloid photo.

“All of us, need to take responsibility on what we ingest into our brains,” Aniston told Ellen. “We as women do a lot of incredible things in this world other than just procreate.”

Aniston added that everyone, but women especially, need to stop reading and buying tabloid magazines.

“We have to stop listening to them, we have to stop buying them because we have to support each other, especially at this time, to love each other, to support, and to be proud of women whatever your choice is in life,” she said. “It’s up to us what makes us happy and fulfilled.”

We could not agree more.
