Rep. Jim Costa (D-Calif.) has defeated Republican Johnny Tacherra in the race to represent California's 16th Congressional District.

Costa served for nearly two decades in the California State Assembly before becoming a state senator. He was first elected to Congress in 2004, and currently serves on the Agriculture and Natural Resources committees.
