If you need a lot of liquor -- and you need it fast -- the state of Kansas is selling off hundreds of confiscated bottles.

The state says it collected the bottles from new restaurant owners who bought businesses stocked with liquor, but do not have a liquor license of their own.

It helps other owners move stock out that they legally would not be able to sell,” Jeannine Koranda, spokeswoman for the Kansas Department of Revenue, told the Topeka Capital-Journal.

Some of the lots contain hundreds of bottles of alcohol, including rum, brandy, tequila, vodka, whiskey and Scotch. So far, the highest bid on any lot is $160. One lot, which contains about 20 boxes of wine in addition to various hard liquors, has yet to get a starting bid of $10.

While there's a chance the booze might be sold for cheap, not everyone will have an opportunity to buy it: All bidders need a Kansas liquor license.

Bidding ends on Sept. 28, and winners will have to pay a 10 percent buyer's premium.

Kansas has a history of unusual auctions. Last year, the state sold off sex toys and other novelties seized from a chain of adult bookstores that failed to pay taxes.
