The media firestorm after Kathy Griffin released a photo of her holding a bloody, fake Donald Trump head has been relentless. She’s been widely criticized, she’s been defended, she’s apologized and she lost her New Year’s Eve gig with CNN. Now, she’s lawyering up.

Griffin has enlisted the help of celebrity lawyer Lisa Bloom, who has a yuuuge reputation. Among her high-profile cases, Bloom has reportedly represented women who accused Bill Cosby and Bill O’Reilly of harassment.

The pair will hold a press conference Friday to explain the image and respond to “bullying” from the Trump family.

Bloom tweeted a press release explaining, “Earlier this week, Ms. Griffin released a controversial photograph of herself posing with a faux-bloody mask of Donald Trump’s face. Ms. Griffin and Ms. Bloom will explain the true motivation behind the image, and respond to the bullying from the Trump family she has endured.”

It’s unclear at this time exactly what bullying Griffin is referring to, but more should be explained at the press conference.

The Trumps have responded since the photo’s release, with President Trump saying the comedian should be “ashamed,” whereas the first lady called Griffin “sick.” Donald Trump Jr. responded by writing on Twitter, “Imagine a conservative did this to Obama as POTUS?”

You don’t have to imagine, Donald Trump Jr., since conservatives have made plenty of vile images and comments about President Obama, too.

Regardless, in her apology video, Griffin admitted she “went too far.”
