Reminder: Millions Of Kids Dread Summer For Devastating Reason

Kid President is baaack. And while he’s as cute as ever, the mini leader has delivered his most sober message yet.

In anticipation of summer, everyone’s favorite politician (aka Robby Novak) shares in his latest video some of his top things about the season. Some of those include the sound his voice makes when he’s near a fan and eating Popsicles on a scorching hot day.

But like most kids, this fourth-grader’s most beloved aspect of summer is not going to school.

But midway through his "No School" dance, Kid President gets a distressing news alert. Robby learns that millions of kids actually dread the last dismissal bell, because the end of school often means the end of reliable meals.

Throughout the school year, 21.5 million kids depend on free or reduced-price lunches. But once summer hits, 90 percent of those kids lose that access, according to ConAgra Foods.

Funding isn’t the only issue that’s keeping kids in need from getting food in their stomachs over the warmer months.

Even though many food programs are actually eligible for funding, there simply aren't enough programs to cater to all the kids who need them, Marian Wright Edelman, president of the Children’s Defense Fund, wrote in a HuffPost blog. And even when there are decent programs in place, getting the word out often proves difficult.

To help make sure that no kid goes hungry this summer, ConAgra Foods Foundation is donating the equivalent of one meal to Feeding America for every view, like and share of Kid President’s "5 Things That Make Summer Awesome" video. The organization said it will donate up to 1 million meals through July 31.

"This is so easy people," Kid President said. "You’re doing it right now."
