Humor is infectious. The sound of roaring laughter is far more contagious than any cough, sniffle, or sneeze. When laughter is shared, it binds people together and increases happiness and intimacy. Laughter also triggers healthy physical changes in the body. Humor and laughter strengthen your immune system, boost your energy, diminish pain, and protect you from the damaging effects of stress.Best of all, this priceless medicine is fun, free, and easy to use;” write Melinda Smith and Jeanne Segal.

Laughter is a powerful antidote to stress, pain, and conflict. Nothing works faster or more dependably to bring your mind and body back into balance than a good laugh. Humor lightens your burdens, inspires hopes, connects you to others, and keeps you grounded, focused, and alert.

With so much power to heal and renew, the ability to laugh easily and frequently is a tremendous resource for surmounting problems, enhancing your relationships, and supporting both physical and emotional health.”

Laughter brings us together. It unifies and allows us to forget what troubles us. A smile is the shortest distance between 2 people. Maybe a smile should be required within our turbulent political system? When Dallas Police Chief David Brown paid tribute to the city’s slain officers during a Tuesday, July 12, memorial service, by reciting lyrics from Stevie Wonder’s 1977 hit “As,” on such a solemn occasion, he brought a smile to the entire congregation, including the President, as he reminded them of their humanity with these poignant lyrics.

“Until the ocean covers every mountain high―Loving you
Until the dolphin flies and parrots live at sea―Loving you
Until we dream of life and life becomes a dream―Be loving you
Until the day is night and night becomes the day―Loving you

Laughter and humor help you stay emotionally healthy.

“Laughter makes you feel good. And the good feeling that you get when you laugh remains with you even after the laughter subsides. Humor helps you keep a positive, optimistic outlook through difficult situations, disappointments, and loss.”

Let us always “teach our children well,” teaching them love, honor and respect. And with all the songs that we write for children, let lessons be learned from the lyrics we write and allow the children to grow up with the notion of paying forward love.

Thanks to Melinda Smith, Jeanne Segal, Robin Williams, Chris Rock, and Rowan Atkinson for helping with this article. Without you and laughter, the world would be considerably more boring.
