Many flock to PewDiePie’s YouTube channel for comedic relief – now the joke’s on us.
Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, known as PewDiePie with more than 50 million YouTube subscribers, announced in a recent video that he would exit the platform that made him famous once he reached that 50 million subscriber mark.
In the enticing video, the U.K. based creator expressed where this idea came from – his annoyance in his account being unsubscribed from channels or not seeing content that he was subscribed to. As a result, Kjellberg said he noticed there was an issue when his own vlogs hadn’t reached a normal minimum of 2 million views.
So what’s the take away from all of this? Well, you know that saying that any press is good press?
That happened for Kjellberg who says, “You know when you make a joke, and it just blows up way bigger than you ever imagined?”
However, not so fast. That’s right, having reached 50 million subscribers, Kjellberg deleted his channel at noon EST, Dec. 9, as promised, but he never specified which channel would bite the dust. Turns out, it was his second channel.
The final screen of the video reads, “Thanks for 50 million subs … will delete PewDiePie at 100 million.”
Whether you’re a fan of his methods or not, you can’t deny that his tactic in getting subscribers in an expedient fashion worked for him.
