Lena Dunham Will Campaign For Hillary Clinton In Iowa

The "Girls" star is a noted Clinton fan.

Actress Lena Dunham will join Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton on the campaign trail in Iowa.

According to the Des Moines Register, the creator and star of HBO's "Girls" and noted Clinton supporter will appear with the candidate on Jan. 9 in Des Moines and Iowa City, less than a month before the Iowa caucuses.

"Just picture the selfie you’ll take together after you talk about how much you both love Hillary and other super-smart feminists you know!" Michelle Kleppe, the Iowa organizing director for Hillary for America, said in a press release. "Lena has spent a lot of time with Hillary, and I bet she’s got some great stories to share."

In September, Dunham interviewed Clinton for her newsletter, Lenny Letter, discussing feminism and Clinton's college years, as well as providing advice for young women.

The announcement comes as Clinton tries to shore up support among younger voters. While she holds an overall lead over her main challenger, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), she trails him among young voters. Sanders' campaign has made college students a key part of his support base, with thousands of them turning up to his rallies and volunteering in his campaign offices.

When promoting her interview with Clinton, Dunham told CNN that she wants voters to “get to know Hillary as a person…to show young women she was also, at one point, a woman at a crossroads, young, confused. She wasn’t always this sort of political titan figure.”

Dunham joins a slew of celebrities who have stumped for Clinton in the Hawkeye State, including "Scandal" star Tony Goldwyn and singer Katy Perry.
