Middle-Aged Man Gets Interviewed By His Teen Self, And It's Some Chat

"I'm old, I'm fat and in your mind I'm a failure."

Peter "Stoney" Emshwiller was so convinced he'd be "super-famous" that at age 18 he arranged to be videotaped interviewing a very important subject -- his future self. Emshwiller wrote that it was "one side of a time-travel talk show."

Now 38 years later, the 56-year-old Emshwiller, an author and actor from Levittown, New York, is finishing the conversation.

In this hilariously bittersweet clip of his "Later That Same Life" project, the younger Emshwiller asks the future Emshwiller what has become of himself, especially regarding fame and love. The current Emshwiller is in no mood to sugarcoat: "I'm old, I'm fat and in your mind I'm a failure."

"A recent health scare (happily a false alarm) made me realize I ain't gonna live forever, and that it's time to finish this project," Emshwiller wrote on his Rockethub fund-raising pitch. "So I’m finally going to (gulp) face my younger self and record the other half of the conversation. Then I’ll edit all the footage together. The final illusion should be a humorous, touching, sometimes combative, always revealing, totally impossible conversation between a bright-eyed teen and his own middle-aged self. "

By the looks of the footage above, Emshwiller is off to a great start, and we can't wait to see what they talk about next.
