Sister Of Theater Shooting Victim Mayci Breaux: 'She Was My Rock'

Sixteen-year-old Ali Breaux called big sister Mayci "her rock" in an emotional interview Friday following Mayci's death in a shooting at a movie theater in Lafayette, Louisiana, Thursday night.

"Mayci was one of a kind. She cared so much about our family," Ali told MSNBC's Thomas Roberts by phone Friday afternoon.

Ali said her parents are doing "not that well" in the aftermath of Mayci's death.

The teen described her sister as loving and encouraging and said she was always excited when Mayci would come home from college on the weekends. Mayci, 21, was the middle child in the family. Ali has an older brother, Dustin, who is 28.

"She taught me how to be the strong person that I am today," Ali said tearfully. "She taught me not to care what other people think. She taught me how to be a good person."

Mayci and Jillian Johnson, 33, were shot and killed at Lafayette’s Grand 16 Theatre Thursday evening before the shooter -- whom police have named as John Russel Houser, 59 -- turned the gun on himself. Nine other people were wounded during the shooting.

Mayci, a student at Louisiana State University, was at the theater with her boyfriend. Ali said Mayci did not know Johnson, who ran a gift boutique with her husband in Lafayette.

Houser had no known link to either of the deceased. Police have described him as a "drifter" who was estranged from his family.
