Mayor Of Texas Town Wants Homeland Security To Investigate Arabic Flag Reading 'Love For All'

For living in the home of the brave, this Texas town seems mighty scared of love.

Police in Lubbock, Texas, were called upon by the mayor to investigate a large flag seen hanging off a downtown building Monday. The flag, which featured Arabic writing with a heart behind it, read simply: "Love for all."

But Mayor Glen Robertson, who said he was "concerned on several levels," isn't just asking police for help in investigating what's likely nothing more than a criminal trespass charge. He also wants the FBI and Homeland Security on the case, according to New Channel 10.

"It has been brought to my attention that an Arabic flag has been hung from one of the upper floors of the Omni building," Robertson said in a letter sent to City Manager James Loomis. "I am requesting that the flag be removed immediately, that we get an accurate translation of the flag, and that Chief Stevens notify the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, and our Lubbock County Sheriff's Department."

"I fully understand that we must gather more facts before we make a knee jerk reaction but I am concerned on several levels," he added.

Lubbock resident Mazen Sabouni, who is originally from Syria, told KCBD that the phrase on the flag is commonly used around Valentine's Day.

In other Lubbock flag-related news, staff at the local airport Tuesday went over the proper way to dispose of an American flag after one was seen balled up in a plastic bag in the back of an airport pickup truck.
