Mike Huckabee Offers Late Entry For 2016's Worst Election Tweet

This doesn't make any sense.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) offered one of the 2016 election’s most confusing takes Friday morning, comparing Donald Trump to a “car crash” and Hillary Clinton to a “drunk driver.”

Trump may be a car wreck, but at least his car is pointed in right direction. Hillary is a drunk-driver going the wrong way on the freeway.

Aside from not making much sense, it’s an odd comparison for a Trump surrogate to state.

Huckabee, who ran for the Republican nomination himself, endorsed Trump in May, several months after the former governor dropped out of the race. He’s since appeared alongside the GOP candidate at a rally and made several TV appearances in support of the candidate. Huckabee’s daughter, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, serves as a senior adviser on the Trump campaign.

Huckabee, an evangelical Christian who ran on a socially conservative platform, stood by Trump even after a 2005 tape revealed the candidate’s lewd remarks about sexually assaulting women.

“It’s not a big surprise that he is crude and he is vulgar. We all knew that. We knew he wasn’t a Sunday school teacher,” Huckabee told Fox News’ Megyn Kelly shortly after the tape was released.

Later Friday, Huckabee condemned the media for not understanding his initial tweet:

Low IQ media don't get my earlier tweet about car wreck. @realdonaldTrump will bend fenders but is a vehicle going right way.

This story has been updated to include Huckabee’s second tweet.

Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.
