1 Of 2 Missing Dogs Returns Home With Bullet Wounds: Family

A 10-year-old golden retriever mix named Ranger remains missing.

A Michigan family wants answers after they say one of their two dogs returned home last week with bullet wounds in his shoulder and leg. Meanwhile, the other dog remains missing.

"It was terrible, it was just overwhelming, you're just filled with anger and fear and everything all bottled up in one," Mike Vislosky told The Times Herald.

Vislosky said that on Feb. 5, both of his golden retriever-Labs, 3-year-old Hatchi and 10-year-old Ranger, took off from his family’s home in Burnside Township, about 45 miles northeast of Flint.

Hatchi returned on Wednesday with the mysterious wounds. Vislosky said a vet estimated that the injuries were a few days old.

Vislosky said he can't imagine who'd want to harm his dogs, but acknowledged a state law that allows a dog to be shot if it's believed to be harming people or livestock.

Still, Vislosky's family can't see the dogs doing anything like that.

"They've not caused any problems. They're great with kids. We have two children," his wife, Becky, told WNEM.

The concerned dog owners posted a photo of Hatchi on a GoFundMe page created to raise reward money for information on the shooter and pay for the dog's medical costs. Anything extra will go to the local Humane Society, they said.

So far, no one has come forward, but at least Hatchi is home and on the mend.

"Hatchi should make a full recovery other than some scaring and some bullet fragments that he will always have," the family posted on the fundraising site Sunday.
