Kick-Ass 2 is every bit as stupid as this photograph makes it look.

I remember hating 2010's Kick-Ass as being sadistic, unexciting and not funny enough. It had a ton of style, thanks to director Matthew Vaughn, but not a lot of wit or brains. When I went back and reread my review after seeing Kick-Ass 2, I found I'd actually given it a mildly passing grade, mostly because I liked the potty-mouthed humor dished out by Chloe Grace Moretz as the butt-kicking Hit Girl.

But Moretz, now a coltish 16 (she was 12 when she made the first one), seems like just another sullen, mouthy teen when her Mindy Macready decides to give up the super-hero line to honor the wishes of her adoptive father (Morris Chesnutt), her late father's old partner on the NYPD.

(At this and all performances, the role of New York will, in most instances, be played by Toronto.)

What's a super-hero to do?
