'Night Of Blatant Racism' Spoof Nails The Real Horror Of Halloween

Make it stop.

Culturally insensitive costumes are frightening.

Take it from the folks at Mitú, who capture the horror of seeing one’s culture or community reduced to a costume in their spoof, “The Night Of Blatant Racism.”

In the video, two young people desperately flee Halloween revelers whose costumes perpetuate harmful stereotypes and trivialize the histories of entire groups of people. Though they try to fight back, explaining why such costumes are offensive, they’re met with indifference.

“Don’t be so sensitive,” one reveler calls after the pair. “It’s just a costume.”

But it isn’t. And the fact that so many people believe that it is, in real life, despite many arguments to the contrary, is what’s really scary.

Please, make it stop!

Watch the spoof for yourself in the video above.
