Olympian Yvonne Treviño Hayek And Salma Hayek Are Totally Related

Go team Hayek!

Those Hayeks are a talented bunch.

Salma Hayek’s distant relative Yvonne Treviño Hayek will represent Mexico at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, E! News reports. The 27-year-old, who is the granddaughter of Salma’s father’s cousin, will also be the first woman in 48 years to compete in the long jump event for team Mexico.

Athletic prowess must definitely run in the family. Salma was a gymnast back in the day, and a really good one at that.

In 2012, the actress told the New Zealand Herald she was drafted by the Mexican Olympic team as a child. “They drafted me... to be part of the Olympic team! But I was eight or nine and my father said no because I would have had to go live in Mexico City in a boarding school for gymnasts, do six hours, eight hours a day of training, which for me was like paradise,” she explained.

I wish I could still do that but at least I have proof that once upon a time I was a #gymnast #ludscanov #gym #tbt

However, her father declined the talent scout’s offer. “My father thought I wouldn’t have had a normal childhood, and he wanted me to be normal,” she continued.

But it all worked out in the end. Salma rose to fame as an actress and producer, and now Yvonne will proudly represent their family and Mexico at the 2016 Olympics.
