Prison Bus Overturns On New York Thruway In Ramapo; 3 Injured

A New York City Department of Corrections carrying 16 prisoners flipped onto its side Wednesday morning. The bus-- transporting the prisoners back to Ulster Correctional Facility, a medium security prison, from court appearances in New York City-- was driving on the New York State Thruway in Ramapo, New York at about 10:40 AM when the accident occurred.

So far, there are no life-threatening injuries reported, although three people were seen being put into ambulances. Fox New York reports the driver was pinned and Lo-Hud hears he's suffered a head injury but is "conscious."

All of the prisoners, and 3 DOC employees, were escorted off the bus. Prisoners could be seen outside the bus in brown jumpsuits, handcuffed together.

All northbound lanes are closed on the Thruway just above exit 14A.

State police Capt. Evelyn Mallard told LoHud, "It appears the bus was cut off by an unknown vehicle which caused the crash."
