'I Did It': Man Appears To Confess To Killing Girlfriend On Reddit

A Canadian murder suspect believed to be on the run in the United States may have admitted in a Reddit post that he killed his on-again, off-again girlfriend.

The post, made by Reddit user Redasblue101 and claiming to be from 24-year-old Ager Mohsin Hasan, says that Hasan is responsible for the April slaying of 22-year-old Melinda Vasilije, according to The Kitchener Post.

“I did it,” Redasblue101 wrote in a post titled, “Wanted for Kitchener murder my side.”

“This was the first time I ever did something physically violent,” the since-deleted post continued.

HuffPost cannot confirm that Hasan wrote the post. The Waterloo Regional Police Service has acknowledged that the message is under investigation.

Police say Vasilije’s body was found inside her Kitchener, Ontario, apartment on April 28. Her death has been ruled a homicide. Authorities have charged Hasan with second-degree murder, alleging that Vasilije was “targeted,” CTV News reported.

Redasblue101 denied that the killing was intentional and claimed that Hasan had gone to Vasilije’s home to try to make up with her. The post asserts that the relationship was “back on track” until Hasan confessed he’d been with another woman.

“She started freaking out,” the post reads. “Wouldn’t say a word and just kept slapping me with tears in her eyes. Slaps turned into hits.”

The Reddit post accuses Vasilije of coming at Hasan with a knife, at which point he allegedly grabbed another knife.

“I hit her with it, almost blindly, a few times,” Redasblue101 wrote. “I didn’t know what happened. I was confused, shocked and scared. I had no intentions of that happening.”

Redasblue101 said that Hasan “started freaking out” when he saw blood and fled the scene.

Authorities have been unable to locate Hasan since the discovery of Vasilije’s body. Detectives have confirmed that he crossed the U.S.-Canada border into Buffalo, New York. He was last seen on surveillance video at a Walmart in Erie, Pennsylvania, on the night of April 28. Police say he stole a license plate off a vehicle in the parking lot and put it on the black 2016 Honda HR-V he was driving.

The Reddit post appeared four days later, on May 2.

“I understand the early judgements made by society,” Redasblue101 wrote. “Distancing myself makes it seem like I am trying to escape a crime. I’m not. I’m only trying to give myself some space and fully take in what happened before I turn myself in.”

The Reddit post has since been removed and the user account associated with it has been suspended. However, photos and screenshots of text messages that the user uploaded to Imgur remain online. The purpose of the screenshots was apparently to show that Hasan had been invited to Vasilije’s apartment.

In addition to the second-degree murder charge, Hasan is wanted for three counts of breach of recognizance. Those charges, according to The Kitchener Post, stem from an April 3 incident, in which Hasan is accused of breaking into Vasilije’s apartment.

As of Monday afternoon, a GoFundMe page set up to help cover Vasilije’s funeral expenses has raised nearly $17,000.

“Melinda was such a beautiful woman and didn’t deserve any of this,” wrote Tia Wojteczko, who set up the page. “We want to remember her for all she was … gentle, pure and sweet. For all who knew her she had such an uplifting personality and made everyone around her happy. We will never forget her.”

Authorities said Hasan should be considered dangerous. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
