NBC renews 5 dramas: See who made the cut

NBC has selected several dramas to receive early renewals for next season: The fortunate five include The Blacklist, which recently had a record-setting post-Super Bowl epsiode. There’s also the dynamic Windy City procedural duo of Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. Another of excecutive producer Dick Wolff’s crime dramas, Law & Order: SVU, also made the cut. And finally there’s one more: Friday night’s supernatural thriller Grimm.

By the numbers, that’s season three for Blacklist, season four for Chicago Fire, season three for P.D., a whopping 17th season for SVU and season five for Grimm.

All these renewals were pretty much expected, so let’s now talk about which struggling shows did not make the first-round list: DC Comics’ Constantine, which saw its production halted after 13 episodes, is not here. Neither is Katherine Heigl’s freshman thriller State of Affiars, or family cop dramedy The Mysteries of Laura. NBC has not made official decisions on these titles either way.

Aided by its coverage of a record-strong Super Bowl, NBC ranks No. 1 among the broadcast networks overall this season with a 3.1 rating among adults 18-49—the network’s best average since the 2008-09 season.
