While Zika virus dominates the headlines, the Center for Infectious Disease Research’s jazzy new poster series is here to remind us that “old news infectious diseases” ― HIV, malaria, tuberculosis and sleeping sickness ― still claim millions of lives each year.
While malaria was eliminated in the United States in the early 1950s, it’s still a pressing public health concern worldwide. In fact, according to the World Health Organization, about 3.2 billion people ― almost half of the world’s population ― are at risk for malaria.
Enter this Human vs. Pathogen poster series, which pays homage to “World War-era” public health propaganda posters, classic movie posters and comic books, and serves as an important reminder that our battle against infectious diseases should extend beyond our country’s borders.
