Rick Perry To Join 'Dancing With The Stars'

The former Texas governor will appear alongside rapper Vanilla Ice and Olympian Ryan Lochte.

Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry will join the next season of the popular reality television show “Dancing With the Stars,” Entertainment Tonight reported Monday.

Perry, 66, a Republican presidential candidate in 2012 and 2016, will join the show’s 23d season this fall alongside rapper Vanilla Ice, retired Detroit Lions football player Calvin Johnson, Indy race car driver James Hinchcliffe, and U.S. Olympians Laurie Hernandez and Ryan Lochte.

The full lineup ― as well as the show’s dance partners ― will be revealed Tuesday on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” according to Entertainment Tonight. “Dancing With the Stars” premieres Sept. 12. The show matches celebrities with professional dancers for competitions.

Perry is not the first politician from Texas to boogie down on the show. Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, who resigned from Congress after being indicted for money laundering, participated in the show’s ninth season in 2009. He withdrew due to stress fractures in both feet. DeLay was convicted in 2010, but a Texas appeals court overturned the ruling.
