Sarah Michelle Gellar Praises 'Brave Friend' Shannen Doherty Amid Breast Cancer Battle

Sarah Michelle Gellar is standing by her friend Shannen Doherty in the actress’ continuing fight against cancer.

On Monday, the former “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” star shared a sweet photo of herself and Doherty on Instagram, calling the former “90210” star “brave” and “one of the most loyal friends” she’s known.

“While she is facing the toughest journey of her life, she is sharing it with friends she has never met in the hopes of helping other people who are going through the same struggle. That’s a true friend,” Gellar added.

Doherty, 45, was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2015 and confirmed the news in a statement to People in August that same year.

Since announcing her diagnosis, Doherty has been open about her struggle, using social media to share her journey.

In a recent interview, Doherty also revealed that her cancer has spread, opening up about her biggest fears.

“The unknown is always the scariest part,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “Is the chemo going to work? Is the radiation going to work? You know, am I going to have to go through this again, or am I going to get secondary cancer? Everything else is manageable. Pain is manageable, you know, living without a breast is manageable. It’s the worry of your future and how your future is going to affect the people that you love.”
